National Ready Mix Concrete Association Recognizes Holcim for Excellence in Safety at its US Concrete Plants

Chicago, Ill., – June 8, 2021 — Holcim US announced that 83 of its ready-mixed concrete plants across the country received Excellence in Safety Awards from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) Think First Safety Contest. Seventy-five plants out of the 83 earned the highest, gold-level awards.

Moreau, CEO of US ACM, Holcim. “We’re honored to receive these awards from NRMCA and thank the more than 1,500 employees across our US concrete plants who work tirelessly to maintain the highest standards of safety at our sites.”

To determine winners, NRMCA’s Safety Task Group bases the winning facilities off of the latest OSHA/ Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Incident Rate available for the ready mixed concrete industry. Only those plants with an incident rate below the national average receive awards. The awards were broken down into Gold, Silver and Bronze tiers based on performance:

Gold – Incident rate equal to zero
Silver – Incident rate greater than zero and equal to or less than 2.40
Bronze – Incident rate greater than 2.40 and less than 4.80

“For years, the NRMCA Think Safety Contest has been a safety performance and incentive award program aimed at fostering safe practices at ready mixed concrete plants across the nation,” added NRMCA President Michael Philipps. “Holcim plants being honored is a testament to the exceptional culture of safety that exists within the company and the industry.”

Founded in 1930, the NRMCA represents the producers of ready mixed concrete and the companies that provide materials, equipment and support to the industry. The goal of the program is to encourage safe workplace practices at ready-mixed concrete plants across the US. Holcim earned nearly seven percent of the safety awards in this year’s contest, continuing to prove its leadership in an industry estimated to include more than 7,500 plants in the US.
